A Fundraiser too Far

Sometimes as professionals, the slightest things can set us off. Thankfully however, the outcomes are far more peaceful. Here’s an e-mail my good friend wrote to pretty much the entire company regarding a fundraiser.

Hello,

I am so sorry I was not in the building yesterday to get my emails and respond in a timelier manner. I was so happy to show up today and receive the plethora of emails about these entertainment books. I now have my choice of so many people to buy this book from. And guess what my fellow colleagues. I do not sell the Entertainment Book.

I bet many of us cannot wait to buy this thing for $25. We take out the card and put it in our wallet or purse for an entire year. We take out the coupons we think we are going to use and put them somewhere special (maybe an envelope) because we don’t want to lug around that huge book. We never have those coupons when we need them (maybe one). That card we will use once to receive around $15 back (because the cheapest thing on the bill is deducted) and then we are out about $10 on the deal. Next year we will be sorry we bought the darn thing when we are reminded with emails like the ones we have received today and yesterday. We then buy another because many of us are irrational when it comes to voting with our dollars.

I would truly be amiss if I did not include a clichéd yet heart-felt “safe and happy holiday” wish to all of you. We can start the eating (and drinking) binge tonight that ends on January 1st. Then we can all join a gym that first week of January 2006 and never go. Around March or April we can quit the gym. At the end of June we will all be excited about our summer vacation. Many of us will be a bit (or more than a bit) overweight and not go swimming or even wear a bathing suit all summer long. Then school will start again and emails about Entertainment books will soon be back. It is truly a vicious cycle. It is pathetic for few. It is a lifestyle for most.

These emails should stop once my new medications kick in (or I start a BLOG that nobody reads). Yes, I am a bit out of control but I am happy almost all of the time and this helps me maintain my happiness.

Gobble-Gobble

P.S. I am not trying to offend sellers of these books (or any other sellers of any kind). I also am not trying to offend others that do not exercise. You are all beautiful people. Be happy who you are and what you look like. If I have still offended somebody even after this statement I guess I really have to be honest and state that I don’t care.
